AFTER sweeping the inaugural ‘Kwita Izina’ cycling challenge tour back in June, Abraham Ruhumuriza wants to go a notch better when the Tour of Kigali sets in later this month.
The 30-year-old has stopped at nothing to make sure he is in the best possible shape for the 145km race.
The four-time Tour de Rwanda champion has embarked on riding on the demanding 240km Kigali-Butare-Kigali route as he plots to out compete his fellow team Rwanda counterparts in Nathan Byukusenge, Jean de Dieu Rafiki and Uwase Nyandwi.
"I have been riding from Kigali to Butare and back because I know that I have to put in more effort to win this race,” the Rubavu cycling club rider said.
Over 50 cyclists are expected to race in the tour. Female cyclists will however do 90km.
Seven clubs ranging from Rubavu, Huye, Rapide, Cine Elmay, Rwamagana, Kayonza and Unatave have confirmed participation in the one-day event scheduled for September 20.
