After his five year tenure in Rwanda, the outgoing EU boss, David McRae, during an exclusive interview with The New Times, said that among the issues that impressed him most about the country is the level of security.

According to the EU boss, without security, it would have been difficult for Rwanda to register progress at the rate it has.

Now that security, undeniably the backbone for development is strong and firm, the momentum of making Rwanda a destination for doing business must be accelerated.

The leadership has done a commendable job of capitalising on the strengths and making the country competitive.

The US congressmen who visited the country this week are just an example of how high level guests come over, witness first hand the progress the country is making and commit to get on board and be part of the country’s renaissance.

While such foreign guests play the important role of being good ambassadors for Rwanda, it is our responsibility as Rwandans to make the environment friendly especially for potential investors.

The government has already created an enabling environment by introducing business reforms, clamping on corruption and improving on the infrastructure, as some of the key strategies that create a favourable business environment.

As individuals we must step up, work extra hard, pay our taxes, respect our jobs and consider solving the challenges of our country as our responsibility and not someone else’s responsibility.

The dream of making Rwanda the true African model is a reality that will only be achieved when we perceive the task as a collective effort and all parties involved fulfil their respective roles.
