Following a letter written to the editor in your 1st September 2009 issue where Sylvie Mukashema was asking the relevant authorities to switch off street lights during the day.

I would like first of all to thank her for being concerned and raising this issue.

However, I would like to inform her and the readers that all street lights are switched on and off automatically everyday at 06:00 pm and 06:00am respectively.

Lights are only switched on during the day where repairs are being done on any particular line.

For example when our staff is repairing street lights at KBC roundabout; they have to switch on lights from the Kimihurura (Kabindi) to former Novotel Hotel which is one line.
