Mukura Victory Sport have appointed retired skipper Juma Munyaneza as their assistant coach, club vice president in charge of technical and development has confirmed.

Speaking to Times Sport, Giddy Nsonera confirmed that the former Rwandan international will assist head coach Rajab Bizimuremyi with immediate effect.

The 40-year-old, who hanged his boots two weeks ago, has also been handed the duties of coaching the club’s junior side.

While announcing Munyaneza’s appointment, Nsonera noted that the club didn’t have to think too much before reached a decision to appoint their former skipper into the new role.

"(At 40) Juma (Munyaneza) is still young even with no coaching experience but with so much potentials to become a better coach.

"We intend to give him enough support as far as taking him for coaching course(s) is concerned in the near future. And also, he has been loyal to this club for along time,” Nsonera said.

Munyaneza, who has been at the club for over 20 years, replaces one Sadiki who played for the club in the 80s.

He assumed the assistant coaching role last season during the period when the Huye based outfit was in crisis that resulted in four consecutive league defeats.

He worked under Bizimuremyi throughout last season until he resigned his post recently under mutual consent with the club.

For so long, Munyaneza Juma has been tipped to become Mukura head coach and those wishes could well become a reality not in a distant future.

Regarded as the country’s best midfielders of his time, Munyaneza was capped 17 times for Rwanda and holds a record 200 caps for the club he joined as a 16-year old.

He had a brief spell with Rayon Sports in the mid 90s before retuning to his childhood club where he enjoyed cult hero status.
