MUHAMMAD Tchite ‘Meme’ could win his first cap for Belgium this Saturday when the country plays Estonia in a World Cup qualifier at Sclessin.

After a long hassle, the Spain-based striker has been cleared to play for Belgium according to his lawyer Luc Misson.  Misson recently revealed to Times Sport that the world football body, Fifa had finally allowed the Racing Santander forward to play for Belgium.

Misson hinted that Fifa’s decision came after learning that Rwanda’s football federation (Ferwafa) had forged signatures to lure Meme into featuring for the Amavubi Stars back in 2004.

Belgium’s head coach Rene Vandereycken has now named Meme in his 25-man squad.

However, Ferwafa has rubbished these claims insisting that they are still waiting for an official communication from Fifa.

"We have heard but we need an official communication from Fifa,” Ferwafa’s Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa said. Meme has been a centre of controversy with Rwanda, Burundi, DR. Congo and Belgium all interested in landing him. 

He started his footballing career with Prince Louis in Bujumbura before featuring for Mukura Victory Sports in 2002.

He made his professional debut in 2003 with Belgium’s Standard Liege.

In 2007, he made his intentions of playing for Belgium clear after landing the country’s citizenship but Fifa stalled his wish.
