RUBAVU - A group of former employees who were recently sacked by the Rubavu District, have resolved to drag the Mayor, Pierre Celestine Twagirayezu, to court for alleged defamation and wrongful dismissal.

In the dossier presented to the prosecution, on August 31, the former employees argue that Twagirayezu, while appearing before the district council, falsely accused Desire Mbarushimana, the former Executive Secretary of Nyundo, and one Solange Mutaramira, of sexual immorality.

"He had no facts, we ask you to investigate Twagirayezu’s motive,” the dossier, a copy of which The New Times has obtained, reads in part.

However, the Rubavu prosecutor has declined to comment on the issue, claiming to have no authority to speak to the media.
Other sources say, the former workers have already petitioned the Ministry of Local Government and the National Labour Union, challenging their dismissal.

Speaking to The New Times, the President of the District Advisory Council, Rachael Nyirasafari, said the council has held consultations with the district management on the disputed sacking, and agreed that Mayor’s decision was right.

"The sacked district employees appealed to us and we discussed it, we however found out that there was no ill motive in their sacking,” Nyirasafari said.
