SOUTHERN PROVINCE

MUHANGA- Fenias Ngezahayo, 32, a primary school teacher is currently being held at Muhanga Police station over examination malpractice.

Police caught the accused on Monday November 5 after a signal from concerned residents, who alerted College Saint Marie Reine of the malpractice.

Ngezahayo is a teacher at Buramba primary, in Kabacuzi sector and was found illegally doing examinations for a Senior-6 private candidate identified as Edouard Ndekezi, police have said.

According to the local authorities, examinations in the area have been conducted well and this was the first case in the region of serious malpractice on the October 31 national examinations.

Ngezahayo admitted the offense and told the New Times that the private candidate was a "close friend” and had been hired at a "costless” price.

"I have been doing this for long and I was doing a law examination when I was arrested. However, I am not paid for this…it is just on friendly basis,” Ngezahayo said.

The director of education could not be reached for comments by press time but Ngezahayo stands to face courts of law over the charges.
