MUHANGA—A 51-year old woman identified was brutally murdered by unidentified residents in Muhanga recently in an incident that erupted over agricultural produce.

Constance Muzigangendo was found dead November 5 during early morning hours in Kabutare village, after a violent altercation between so-far unidentified thugs and Muzigangendo and her son.

"The murderers allegedly broke through the windows and commanded the old lady and her 17-year old son [Jean de Dieu Manirarora] to handover an unknown amount of money” says Charles Nzayisenga, executive secretary of Muhanga.

The murderers, with masked faces, allegedly wrapped up the old woman and "hit her to death,” says Manirarora, the 17-year old son to the deceased who managed to escape the attack.

Security forces in the area are still investigating the case and none of the culprits have been arrested. However, residents say that the act was fully intended to kill the family.

"This is not the richest family in the area and this is not the first time the family is attacked. The older son, Muhamoud Issa has always been attacked and we wonder what the offenders want from the family,” a resident said.

Local leaders have asked the residents to be upbeat on night curfews and identify any unfamiliar faces in the area, to curb down crime.
