The famous Gen Z comedy show is gearing up for a special show in celebration of third year anniversary on March 27, at Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village.

In celebrating this milestone, show host and funnyman Merci Ndaruhutse, also known by his stage name Fally Merci, announced a host of big comedy profiles from Comedy Store, a comedy concept hosted by renowned Ugandan comedian Alex Muhangi, to join local comedians to the Kigali stage and add more color to the fete.

Among Comedy Store comedians confirmed for the show are MC Mariachi, Madrat and Chiko, Pablo, Maulana and Reign, and Alex Muhangi, the brains behind the concept.

They will perform alongside Rwanda’s very own Patrick Rusine and various emerging comedians who rose to stardom via the Gen Z Comedy concept including Karole Kasita, Ambassador Wabakonsomateri, Pirate and Umushumba among others.

"This is a special edition as Gen Z Comedy Show celebrates our third anniversary and a thrilling collaboration with Uganda's famous Comedy Store. This show will definitely be amazing and a great time to witness some of Uganda's talented comedians whom some of our audiences have been longing to see perform live," Merci told The New Times.

The comedy show's vision, Merci explained, is to expand beyond the East African region and host different African comedians, opening doors for Gen Z Show comedians to perform on international stages. The journey has now begun with this collaboration with Uganda's Comedy Store, focusing this partnership on the wider African region.

Consistency was key to the show's success over the past three years, with an uninterrupted bi-monthly schedule that fostered a loyal audience and provided a reliable stage for budding comedians.

According to Merci, the production team is determined to position the Gen Z Comedy Show as East Africa's premier comedy platform. As long as their audience continues their incredible support, top-notch entertainment will remain their priority.

Several comedians who got their start at the Gen Z Comedy Show have since landed career opportunities, solidifying the event as a springboard for emerging talent in Rwanda's comedy scene.

In a recent interview, comedian Angelo Muhinde reflected on his experience in 2024, saying, "It pushed me to explore content beyond my usual routines when fans wanted more variety. This helped me grow as a comedian and opened new opportunities."

Muhinde has since taken on a hosting role at Ishusho TV and organized a Christmas Kids Festival. In 2025, he plans to complete his university studies, produce a solo show, and explore international opportunities.

The Gen Z Comedy show has steadily grown its audience since its beginnings at the Art Rwanda-Ubuhanuzi Incubation Center in Rugando. Over the years, it has moved to venues such as Mundi Center, finally settling at Camp Kigali before this special anniversary event at Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village.
