KAYONZA/BUGESERA - The governor of the Eastern Province, Dr. Ephraim Kabaija, has urged local leaders and contractors to speed up the construction of classrooms in order to accommodate more pupils under the Nine Year Basic Education Programme.

"Remember you promised that by November, all classes will be ready. Let the parents too honour their pledges,” Dr. Kabaija emphasized. 

He made the appeal while assessing progress made in the construction of classrooms in Kayonza and Bugesera districts. 

In Kayonza, he inspected Kayonza College where five extra classrooms are being constructed; while in Bugesera he inspected new classroom construction work going on at Nyamata High School.

The governor, accompanied by other officials later visited ADPR Nyaguhunika and Rango located in Musenyi and Mareba sectors respectively.

The two schools have a combined population of over 3599 students. 

During his visit the governor encouraged students to pay more attention to learning English as it is now a new medium of instruction within the schools. 

"Teachers should remember that the teaching and learning environment must be conducive enough, if it is to be effective.

English language should be embraced for the purposes of boosting learning outcomes,” he said.

School and district authorities promised to double their efforts to complete the construction programme.
