• Agriculture department lags behind

NYAGATARE - District workers last week waited with anxiety for the results of an internal assessment, which was conducted to determine their levels of competence.

According to the Mayor, Robert Kashemeza, the results indicated that 95 percent of the 212 staff members were competent. 

The evaluation also found out that the agriculture department ranks behind in performance. Consequently,  Kashemeza warned the department to pull up  its socks. 

Meanwhile, at a meeting held at the district head-quarters on Sunday, Kashemeza announced that 255 classrooms will have been constructed by of 2010.

It has been reported that close to 1100 pupils study under trees in the district. Classes are over crowded with 70 students occupying a single class. 

"Rwanda’s development depends on educating its population. We cannot attain this achievement which we are seeking while some of our children still study under trees,” said Kashemeza. 

He added that the government has already offered funds and construction work has kicked off. 

"Government has offered Rwf 844million to boost education in the district.

This money will finance the construction of 255 classrooms and other related facilities,” he said.
