Caisse Sociale du Rwanda (CSR) is taking on a great social responsibility—as is their responsibility—to build new and affordable housing, along with other facilities, in and throughout .

As the population and demographics of the country change, it is inevitable that radical but inevitable changes to the way we live will come.

This begins with where we live. The country’s inadequacy in domestic housing has been pointed out over and over in various fora, as opposed to the booming business and office constructions. It is a great pleasure that should be fully savoured therefore, that CSR has taken up the challenge not only to construct affordable houses in urban areas, but also in semi-urban and rural locations like Rwamagana and Nyagatare respectively.

As is a strong example of both Rwanda’s approach to modernity, CSR’s Vision 2020 Housing Estate affords residents the comforts of western-style living.

Ten projects are tentatively scheduled for the immediate future, totaling over Frw29 billion in worth.

But how does ensure that it receives full value for its money?

CSR must work along with the ministries and the private sector of Rwanda, not only because that is where the bulk of potential clients are to be found in the form of employees, but also to share the developmental programme with other stakeholders so that the process does not get bogged down as often happens in solo efforts.

CSR, and by extension the government of , should be thanked for the seriousness it has taken in providing good social services to its citizens. Many social security providers in are bogged down in fishing for ways of whittling down their employees’ savings in dubious investment projects. It is therefore heartening to learn that CSR is surely living up to its vision - being the best social security provider in the region.

Looking at the investment portfolio of CSR gives one confidence that it is an enterprise that knows what it is doing, for it is strategically to be found in such serious going concerns like Sonarwa, BK, and BHR, to mention but a few.
