RWANDA Cricket Association (RAC) has named a strong squad which will represent the country at this year’s ICC Africa World Cricket League Division 3 set for October 2-8 in Blantyre, Malawi.
According to RAC president Charles Haba, who also doubles as the national team manager, Rwanda will face other 5-10 African countries namely; Sierra Leone (5), Rwanda (6), Malawi (7), Lesotho (8), Gambia (9) and Morocco (10).
Haba also added that the named 16 players will still undergo the final selection before naming a final 14-man team in a fortnight before they start residential training.
The international cricket council (ICC) will cover travel and accommodation costs for all the participating countries.
The top two will qualify for division II (which is the next level). These are World Cup Qualifier series.
In 2006 Division three tournament which featured eight African affiliate members of the ICC in pool 1, Rwanda remained in Division three after finishing in sixth position.
Mozambique won the edition to qualify for the Division Two later in the year.
Last year, Rwanda’s quest to earn promotion to the Division Two suffered a major blow as they also finished fourth in the tournament which was held in South Africa.
Rwanda lost to Ghana in the first semi-final.
