Rwanda’s top seed Jean Claude Gasigwa enhanced his quest to pocket $1000 prize money when he stormed the final of the Tanga Cement International Tennis Tournament yesterday at Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club courts.

Gasigwa eliminated Kenyan Francis Rogoi 6-4 6-4 to set up final clash with home boy Jacob Jonas.

Apart from standing a chance of pocketing $1000, Gasigwa managed to also reach the Men’s doubles’ finals due this afternoon.

Six countries have sent players to vie for this year’s top thrones in men’s singles, Ladies singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

The countries include Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan Zimbabwe and the host the Tanzania.

The lucrative tourney has so far attracted players from East African countries of Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Burundi with prize fund package totaling in excess of $7,000.

Gatete reaches ITF/CAT U-14 finals
Meanwhile, Rwanda’s fast raising youngster Hamis Gatete stormed the final of the ITF/CAT U-14 East Africa tennis tournament at Cercle Sportif, Kigali yesterday.

Gatete reached the final after overcoming top seed Guy Iradukunda of Burundi in straights sets 6-2 6-4. He will meet Tanzania’s Ibrahim Shaban, who defeated Burundi’s Saidi Nkurunziza 6-2 6-0.
