The second phase of the mini-volleyball project sponsored by UNICEF will cost Frw20m, Rwanda Volleyball Federation accountant has said.
The money is meant to engage primary school pupils in twenty schools across the country for a period of ten months.
The second phase will cover 11 schools in Byumba and nine in Mutara.
Deo Nzaramba said that the project is aimed at helping orphans and disabled pupils studying in UNICEF-built schools to develop a positive attitude towards life and to improve performances in their studies by engaging in sports activities exclusively, in this case mini-volleyball.
Up to 60 primary school teachers in Byumba and Mutara have received coaching skills in mini-volleyball, which they would use to train pupils in their respective schools.
"The second phase is small and we are still assessing the situations in the twenty schools to know the number of participants.
"But the budget will remain the same as for the first phase. And we have decided to include all orphans (the first phase included only genocide related orphans),” said Nzaramba.
The second phase will cover 20 of the 50 UNICEF built schools.
The first phase covered 30 schools in Gisenyi (Northern Province) and Kibungo (Eastern Province) in 2006.
The two phases of the project are budgeted at a total cost of Frw40 millions.
