The Private Sector Federation (PSF) has embarked on a campaign to help small businesses update their books of accounts for purposes of taxation.  

The programme code-named Resident Accountant has been crafted to help local business operators who have accounting difficulties.

This follows deficiencies exposed among different local business operators who always have problems with tax authorities after failing to properly balance their books. 

"We are appointing an accountant at every district level to help the businessmen in declaring their books of accounts to Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA),” said Antoine Manzi, the director in charge of entrepreneurship at PSF.

He said that poor accountability has been the cause of previous collision between the businessmen and RRA which at times led to the imposition of fines against the former.

According to Manzi, the resident accountants will be deployed at the Business Development Services (BDS) whose centres are spread across the country.

They will be tasked to help the operators balance their books of accounts to keep them abreast with the financial trends in their businesses.

PSF launched the BDS centres in 2006 as a way of reaching out to business operators on the grass roots.
