As top officials threaten to throw in the towel

RAYON Sport Executive Committee has given itself until the end if this week to resign, Times Sport has learnt.

According to the club Secretary General Olivier Gakwaya, the Executive Committee which is led by Senator Valens Munyabagisha took the bold decision after coming under attack from a large section of club fans, who accuse them of being the cause for the club’s current problems.

In an exclusive interview with Times Sport on Monday, Gakwaya said that their decision was agreed upon by the general assembly, which sat over the weekend at Alpha Palace hotel.

"We will resign to give others a chance to manage the club. We took the decision to leave after a certain group of fans took to abusing us and accusing the existing committee of being corrupt.

"We are tired of these humiliating accusations. We have at least tried to work in transparency and when you hear such serious but unfounded accusations, you give room for other people to take over (management),” Gakwaya said.

According to other sources, a new executive committee will be voted into office at the end of next week.

Meanwhile, the general assembly agreed that a fully recognized club member should pay an annual membership fee of Rwf1.2 million to be allowed to take part in various club activities including voting and making decisions on major issues.

The fee was reduced from the original Rwf2 millions.

Those who can’t foot the fee at once can pay in installments.

However, aspiring candidates for the next executive committee have to pay the full amount before contesting in the elections.
