MINYOUTH meets youths

The Ministry of Youth yesterday in conjunction with Health Unlimited met youths in Huye at Kamena stadium to address them on dangers of homosexuality and early age pregnancies.

At least 12% and 6% of girls and boys between 15 and 24 years respectively engage in sex at an early age, this was revealed by Jean Marie Vianney Niyitegeka an official from the Ministry. The youths were also advised against early pregnancies.

Genocide documentary screened

A new documentary about the horrors that engulfed Rwanda has been screened in London. The documentary that contains unseen footage of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi was shown at the Rwandan Embassy in London. It was produced by Peter Kiagame. 

Ignatius Mugabo, head of the Rwandan Diaspora in the UK, said the film ‘Tears of Rwanda” was screened in the main hall of the Embassy.

Gishwati settlers to get plots on loan

Over 290 settlers of Gishwati natural forest are to be given plots of land on loan after their eviction from the forest in an exercise that is expected to be completed next month.

This was said by the Minister of Local Government Christophe Bazivamo during his meeting with area leaders over the weekend. Bazivamo said the settlers of Gishwati forest will get little money for the plots of land they are currently occupying and then will have to pay the rest by themselves.

Avega meets Gicumbi widows

Avega agahozo, an association of genocide widows yesterday met the widows in Gicumbi district to guide them on how they can fight the problems they encounter in their daily life.

Jeanne d’Arc Mukamusoni, the director of the association said that Avega intends to reach out to all widows in the country to offer then the same advice.

Mukamusoni said the next meeting will involve 416 widows from all over the country, and these will spread what they will have learnt to the rest.

RPF members open Rwf 55m building

Rwanda Patriotic Front members in Gisenyi yesterday met to celebrate the completion of the Rwf 55 million building they built themselves.

During the official opening of the premises, Celestin Twagirimana the party chairman said the RPF members contributed over Rwf 28 million while the rest was a loan they acquired from the bank.

He added the party members are now looking forward to establishing more infrastructures in the area.

REMA concludes workshop

The Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) yesterday concluded a workshop for district officials in charge of environment and cooperative societies in the Western Province which embarked on training the participants on the dangers of soil erosion.

The institutions were taken Lake Muhazi where soil erosion is practiced.

REMA encouraged the participants to always adhere to the principle of keeping at least 50 metres from the lake to agricultural activities.

Sector staff donates to One Dollar

The employees of Rwezamenyo sector in Nyarugenge district donated over Rwf3 million to one dollar campaign.

The employees called upon other institutions to come and support the genocide survivors so that they can live a better life.
