Rwanda’s 10000m champion Dieudonne Disi has set his sights on a medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics games and then retire from national duty.  

Disi told Times Sport through an e-mail recently that he considers retirement from international athletics after the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

"I have to focus my training on the Olympic Games in Beijing where I want to finish among the top three then quit and find a way of promoting young, emerging athletes,” the current national record holder said.

"Though I have not managed to win many gold medals in my career, I think what I have done on the other hand is enough for my country,” he continued.

Disi, under his manager Ricky Simms has undergone intensive training ahead of the games.

The ex-APR athlete also tipped his former team-mates Gervais Hakizimana and Gervais Nzeyimana to follow in his foot steps.

The 26-year old took on running as a profession in 1998 after attaining sponsorship from a European-based training camp ahead of the 2002 World Cross Country Championship where he finished 54th   after clocking 37:14.

Recently, Disi won the Vodafone annual half-marathon race in New Delhi bagging a top cash prize of US $ 20,000. 

Disi is said to have recorded a drastic improvement in most of his championships this year, the best coming from 10,000m where he clocked 27:22:23.

He also produced another stunning performance in Udine, Italy after clocking 59:32.
