Rwanda National Police have called upon motorcyclists to engage in its community policing programme if the rate of crime is to further decline.

The call was recently made by the Head of Community Policing in the Central Region, Superintendent Bosco Rutishisha, while addressing members of the Association of Motorcyclists in Rwanda (ASSETAMORWA). 

The association was signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rwandatel, which will see its members’ vendor the telecom’s scratch cards.

"You ride good and bad people to different destinations. The bad people, who at times rob you, can be traced with your help to prevent crime,” he said.

"Someone else might be the victim of crime but who knew? Next time it might be you,” Rutishisha said that the security of Rwanda solely remains in the hands of Rwandans, thus calling for cooperation.

The association has a membership of more than 8,000 from the country’s 30 districts with 50% being based in Kigali city.
ASSETAMORWA President, Dieudonne Nteziyaremye said they help the police in curbing crime.

"We have gone a long way since 2002. For example, we have our own security organ that enforces road safety.

So with our solidarity, we hope to make a better Rwanda,” he pledged.  The Mayor of Kigali city, Dr Aisa Kirabo was also in attendance.
