RUSIZI—A group of 492 residents have joined the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) party in Kamembe sector of Rusizi district.
The new members joined the ruling party on Sunday, November 4, during a party ceremony near the bus and taxi park.
"Today we have registered 492 new members in our Kamembe sector and they have also sworn in before their fellow party members at Ten to Ten Hotel during our get-together function,” said Laurent Ndagijimana, the chairman of RPF in Kamembe sector.
One Damascene Higiro who was among the new party members said that it was special for him to join the party because of the work they did to end the 1994 Genocide.
"I promise to continue helping the party in rebuilding our nation as usual.”
Rusizi District Mayor Jean Pierre Turatsinze said that the RPF had fought hard against racial and ethnic divisionism among Rwandans and urged all residents to continue eliminating divisionism between themselves and to promote unity and reconciliation in the region.
He also encouraged the gathering to set up income-generating businesses that would bail them from poverty. The function was also characterized by a march where all RPF members in Kamembe and Gihundwe sectors moved from Kobil petrol station to Cifina House where the get-together function took place.
