Rwanda and defending champions Burundi will have different tasks when they face-off this afternoon in this year’s Cecafa-Bashir Youth Championship in Sudan.
With Eritrea’s 2-2 draw with Burundi, the three sides are still fighting for Group C quarter-final slot in a late kick-off at Wad Medani Stadium.
While Burundi need to win to qualify, all Rwanda needs is a draw. Michael Weiss’s junior wasps are a point better off than their Burundi counterparts after their goalless draw in their opening Group C fixture against Eritrea.
But Rwanda could pay a pricey lesson after squandering many scoring chances against Eritrea. The team dominated possession but failed to find the net on a number of occasions.
Weiss will now look onto the side’s experienced trio of Emmanuel Sebanani, Yusuf Habimana and Abdulkarim Gashugi to stir the team through.
Eritrea’s tops Group C with two points. Rwanda walks into tonight’s tie with a point while Burundi are also still hunting points to take them through.
Elsewhere, Sudan takes on guests Malawi while Tanzania plays against Somalia in Group A at Khartoum stadium.
In group B, Kenya faces Ethiopia as Zanzibar takes on Uganda’s Hippos at Juba stadium.
