After sponsoring what could be one of this year’s most colourful golf tournaments Mützig Open, Rwanda’s sole brewers Bralirwa have promised more support to Kigali Golf Club.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the two day event, the company’s commercial director Rene Kruijt revealed that the event will become annual and a major feature on the local annual golf calendar.

"We are thrilled with this year’s Mützig Open and we guarantee the club that this tournament will go on for many more years,” Kruijt said.

Bralirwa through its coca cola brand has also promised to throw its weight behind future junior golfers’ tournaments.

"We are also glad to extend our support to the club’s junior golfers.

Through our coca cola brand, we want to assure the club that we shall always be ready to extend our support to junior golfers,” Kruijt who was standing in for the company’s managing director Door Plantenga said.

Attracting over 72 golfers, this year’s Mützig Open was won by Steven Katwiremu, who notched over six birdies; which is undoubtedly one of the best performances by a local golfer at Kigali Golf Club. After being crowned champion, the handicap 03 golfer said that he feels in good shape ahead of this year’s Rwanda Open tournament.

"It’s a great honour for me to be crowned this year’s Mützig Open champion.

This has upped my confidence ahead of this year’s Rwanda Open tournament,” a jubilant Katwiremu noted.

This year’s Mutzig Open was timely for both Bralirwa and the club. While Bralirwa was celebrating its premier brand (Mützig)’s 20 years in existence, Kigali Golf Club was also marking its 20 years in existence.

Over Frw 5million was sunk in the two-day tournament.
