Domestic worker kills three children

It was reported in the week that police had arrested a male domestic worker for allegedly murdering three children. He hid their bodies in the kitchen ceiling.  He is reported to have killed the children after defiling one of them.

The murder happened after the parents left the children with the domestic worker and travelled to Bujumbura, Burundi.

Upon returning, they could neither trace the children nor the domestic worker.

The employee, Jean Damascene Manizabayo killed the children by strangling them with shoelaces.

Manizabayo confessed to the murder and blamed demons as having influenced him to commit the heinous crime.

Kagame lauds police

President Paul Kagame this week visited the police headquarters and said that though the police have done a commendable job, there remains room for improvement.

He addressed the national police council and said the police have attained professional levels which needed to be enhanced by adopting strategies that are commensurate with the changing times.

20 sit for citizenship exams

A group of 20 aspiring Rwandan citizens, sat for a two hour examination to test their knowledge of the country, a prerequisite to acquire Rwandan nationality, it was reported this week.

The exam that was supervised by the Directorate of Immigration and Emigration at Mulindi Agricultural Research Centre is one of the stages that aspiring citizens go through.

The procedure includes reception of application files, interviews, Cabinet approval and the final oath taking by successful applicants.

According to the Directorate, most of the applicants are from the region while others are from Asia and Europe, with most of them also being married to Rwandan nationals.

The Directorate’s officer in charge of the project, Damascene Rusanganwa was quoted in the media saying that the exam was reasonably easy and sought to test for essentials such as the candidate’s awareness and genuine interest in Rwanda.

Kagame visits Ministry of Defence

President Paul Kagame this week visited the Ministry of Defence and met with the leadership of the Rwanda Defence Forces, including 300 commanding officers and staff officers.

President Kagame commended the RDF for attaining a good level of professionalism but stressed that the military had a mission and role much broader than that of a defense force, originating from its history and background in the liberation struggle.

According to press reports, Kagame pointed out that more was expected from Rwanda’s military, particularly in efforts towards the social and economic transformation of Rwanda.

Mutsidashyaka summoned

It was reported this week that Kacyiru Lower Instance Court has directed that former state minister for Primary Education Theoneste Mutsidashyaka be produced in court to explain his role in the alleged tender scam that has rocked the Eastern Province.

According to the press reports, the directive was issued by the Kacyiru court president Claudine Nyaramikenke, and it deals a blow to the prosecution who had earlier maintained that Mutsindashyaka had nothing to answer.

Mutsidashyaka was governor of Eastern Province at the time the tender was awarded.
