MUHANGA—Ecole Ahazaza independent school has instilled values of "patriotism and education” to the young generation of pupils in Muhanga district.

Claude Sebashi, Muhanga director of education, made the commendation during the school’s end of year 2007 celebrations on Sunday November 3.

Also present was OmbudsmanTito Rutaremara, RPF spokesperson Servilien Sebasoni, RPF and Hon. Thomas Habimana.

The children performed the lessons leant through dramas, poems, songs and dances; and the best students rewarded for excellence in classroom work.

Paul Ruhumuriza, Cynthia Nzabagamba, Destin Irakoze and Aubin Cyiza were among the proclaimed pupils who emerged with 79, 95, 89 and 92 per cent marks respectively.

"We, as educators, can evidently see the work done by teachers and expositions of the pupils in all languages are a sign of excellence in school,” said Sebashi.

"This school is the best of the best in the district and encourages early grooming of children and the district will support this objective.” Ahazaza School, meaning ‘future’, is one of the four model schools in Muhanga.

Both the nursery and primary school were founded in 2005 by Raina Luff, a former lawmaker in Rwanda. Raina said that the future of children depends on the contribution of parents and donors and urged for contribution towards constructing more classrooms and a dining hall for the pupils.

"Our school strives for excellence and providing a good foundation of language, English and French. The school doesn’t focus on the rich families and so far most of the pupils depend on the school bursary,” Raina said.

Parents asked the school donors to solicit for pupils-twinning programs and funds to build the dining hall so as to cut the expenses of transport during lunch time. Parents commended the school administration for providing a good foundation for young Rwandans.
