KAYONZA – Send-A Cow a grassroots empowerment project yesterday donated 10 cows to residents of Mukarange Sector in Kayonza District.

The Send-A Cow project manager, Laurent Munyankusi handed over the heifers to Marie Gorethe Mukangarambe, a women leader in Kibungo Diocese.

"We are grateful to you for the work you are doing in boosting  community prospects. Fighting poverty should be everyone’s concern,” the local leaders remarked during the handover function.

The project manager advised beneficiaries to embrace modern animal husbandry in order to ensure sustainability of the project.

"If you do not look after the cows according to set principles, they will die. This will be great disservice to the community.

Let everyone be concerned so that each and every home ultimately gets a cow,” Munyankusi told residents.

The district officials noted that there is need to empower rural families economically.

"Empowering rural poor will help us to increase and sustain economic development.

When given more rights and opportunities residents begin to receive more education, thus increasing the overall human capital of the country,” the leaders said.

The recipients pledged to pass on calves to their friends when the cows later produce. The donation is in line with the One Cow per family project.
