GATSIBO – Police in Nyagatare are holding the Gatsibo district director of infrastructure over an alleged tender scam in which millions of francs were lost.

"Yes, he was arrested and he is likely to appear before court by Friday ,” he said on phone. He however, declined to divulge more details, saying he was in a meeting.

The same financial scam also saw the former Mayor, Jean Marie Vianney Murego and his deputy in charge of economic affairs, Bassa Rwemalika arrested earlier last month.
Rwemalika was later released on bail.

The prosecutor general’s spokesperson, Augustin Nkusi also could not comment on Kimenyi’s arrest, referring this reporter to police.

However, another source from the district who spoke on condition of anonymity said Kimenyi was arrested along with the district’s chief personnel officer and other individuals who won the tender to construct the health centre.

Meanwhile, The New Times established that the suspects are due to appear in Nyagatare Court of Higher Instance on Monday.

Freddy Nkubito, the court president said hearing of the case was supposed to take place last Thursday, but it was postponed to allow prosecution more time to complete the committal bundles.
