Editor,
In dismay I learnt, from an article in The New Times, that two juvenile prisoners in Nyagatare Prison died of food poisoning.
This news though unwelcome raises question of just how well the Rwanda Bureau of Standards is carrying out quality checks?
In any case whether the supplier had genuine papers or his food licensed by the Bureau made this prisoners sick, some not so lucky have now lost their lives and others still fighting for their lives in hospital.
For us to confidently consume what we have in the shops there has to be some sort of assurance that quality standards are maintained and this can only be ensured by proper checks.
It’s also our duty as the public to be careful when buying and handling food. Food poisoning, though ignored, is a very serious condition leading to many deaths each year.
I’m urging people to make sure they check expiry dates on the food items to ensure they are fit for consumption.
I’m also calling out to food suppliers to be more responsible and to be sure of the foods they are selling to unsuspecting customers to avoid similar circumstances.
Making money can never equate to a human beings life. Lets all be careful and save lives.
