GATSIBO — An Italian NGO, AVSI, last Friday, handed over its malnutrition intervention activities to Humure health centre in Remera sector Gatsibo District. 

AVSI’s country director, Riccardo Bevilacqua Lazise, said that the project was developed for the purposes of ensuring health for all residents of Remera. 

"We have been solving malnutrition problems at this health centre since 2000 when we realised that it was an emergency centre for health issues.

We have registered some level of success within our working sites. Hence our handover today signify the end of our intervention,’ he said. 

Liccardo added that  AVSI commenced operations by handling 322 cases of malnutrition which have since been  reduced to only 18 cases. 

"We hope that with this commendable job those taking over will be able to wipe out the menace in this society,” he said. 

At the function, the acting Mayor, Pascal Ndahayo thanked AVSI for working in partnership with the district to solve malnutrition problems.  

He decried cases of malnutrition among children. 
"It’s embarrassing that we still have such cases of malnutrition among residents in our country.

It’s time to practice family planning and work hard to end such cases,” he said.
