The Rwanda Red Cross society through its first aid services ended a three-day refresher course for trainers in first aid techniques last week.

The training which brought together all Red Cross first aid service workers across the country and Burundi was held at its headquarters in Kacyiru.

Bernard Nzigiye President of Rwanda Red Cross Society  urged the trained to use the skills they acquired to train others so as to expand the first aid services across the country.

"Our mission is to give first aid services to all people with no exceptions across the country,” Nzigiye said

He observed that the majority of the people who have fire extinguishers in the houses, offices or cars do not know how to use them in case of an emergency.

"This is therefore our responsibility to teach them and through this we will be widening our services,” he said.

He urged them to collaborate with the government bodies most especially the police to make their duties easier.

Meanwhile, the trained first aid workers also wrote user manual during their training period that guides in first aid services to new comers.

The book, the first of its kind both in Rwanda and Burundi combines all first aid services that can be provided to patients depending on their sicknesses.

Charles Muvara, the first aid coordinator Rwanda Red Cross society said that lack of such a book has been one of the problems affecting them in expanding their services.

Mia Ntahobari, the first aid project coordinator in Burundi said that this will help them to recruit more workers.
