KAMPALA - Rwanda has joined other East African partner states to implement the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Global strategy on occupational health and safety.

This was revealed during a stakeholders’ meeting of the East African regional programme on occupational health and safety, recently held in Kampala.

Speaking to The New Times, Gustave Ngiriyandemye, official in-charge of occupational safety at the ministry of public service said that occupational safety and health policy will be implemented in Rwanda just like in other East African member states.

He cited the insufficiency of control measures and very low capacity of inspectors in the field of occupational and health safety, as some of the problems currently affecting the programme in Rwanda.

The regional programme on occupational health and safety is currently being implemented in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.

Regional occupational programme is a 4-year programme based on a long term collaboration between the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health and the occupational health and safety institutions of Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
