Editor,
I would like to comment on your article of 15th August 2009 entitled ‘’ Rwanda could switch to the Left-Hand Drive system’’.
Your article says that ‘’ survey conducted by top MINIFRA consultants indicates that 52 percent of the people interviewed favored the switch to the left, while 32 percent would prefer to maintain the current system.’’
I am sorry to say that I am really questioning the way this survey was conducted and the people that were interviewed.
Changing the current system requires a lot of investment and actually the transition to another system may cause accidents because people will need to adjust.
These consultants should have proposed instead to modify the decree that prohibits the importation of Left Hand Drive cars to enable people from EAC to conduct business in Rwanda.
Otherwise, changing the system will require a lot and will complicate things more the current system.
We should copy Burundi where their system is like ours, but they allow the importation of left hand drive.
