‘Water is life,’ many say, but safe water means a disease free life. This applies for all humanity irrespective of the place they live in.

However, the extent to which water is required in different institutions calls for a proper and clear measure to ensure its availability.

Although water serves almost the same purpose in these institutions, the need for good clean water storage especially in schools is necessary.

This is based on the results of students taking water that is stored in dirty containers that may lead to infections.

It’s against such conditions that schools which cannot afford to put up such facilities should be given a hand in order to attain the required standards.

In efforts of considering and taking part towards solving such community problems, Roto Tanks, a manufacturer of plastic water tanks through Hope Rwanda Project, last month  managed to give out a donation of Rwf 16,000,000 in order to construct quality water storage systems in two schools.
The schools include Gisozi Primary School and Gatenga Primary School in Gikondo.

This also comprised of funding the construction of the base where the water tanks will be placed.

The Roto Tanks General Manager, Shiva Shankara Kurup said that the exercise is to carry on depending on the efforts and determination the company has in sharing challenges being faced by the community where they operate business.

"Problems faced by the community from which we operate affects us too. Therefore we have to continue taking part as long as we are able,” Kurup said.

He said that other three schools are yet to benefit in the same way that the two schools did.

"We are to sponsor three more schools that will emerge best by vote of the community during this season,” he said.

He explained that the determination to offer what is possible will be based on his survey in certain schools on how students get and store water.

"I found out that there is need to give a hand in form of rendering our services to the community especifically in schools that cannot afford these services,” he noted.

He further explained that locals have been given the chance to look around for three schools which are in poor conditions of water storage then respond either by email or filling the short form availed to them.

The form has a provision where respondents indicate schools voted for, their contacts and details of the sponsor.The official said that Kigali City Council is committed to work with them.

"Kigali city council has also pledged to give part of the technical team to take part and make the programme a success.”

He also noted that it’s through the efforts of community members that problems are solved.

"The struggle must continue to protect our children from getting infections due to drinking unclean water.”
