RUSIZI—The Ministry of Education in conjunction with FAWE Rwanda and Protect Families and Children Against HIV/Aids (PACFA) has awarded four schools that excelled in various educational aspects in Rusizi district.

The ceremony was held on Friday November 2, at St. Matthias primary school in Cyangugu cell, Kamembe sector where Mururu Teachers’ Training College and St Mathias primary school were given Frw1 million each.

Nyamabembe primary school and Nkombo secondary school were also given Frw500,000 each. The awards are in line with the competition under the Girls’ Education Competition from the Ministry of Education.

Executive secretary Boniface Bajyanama, who presided over the function, urged other schools that didn’t win the prices to compete more in order to win next year.

"It’s good for those schools that have won such cash prizes from MINEDUC but I also urge other schools who didn’t make it to compete seriously such that they also win in the coming girls’ competition next year” Bajyanama urged.

He also encouraged teachers and parents to promote gender balance in schools and in their respective homes. For a school to win gifts under the girls’ education competition it must have discipline, general cleanliness, academic performance and strong sports.

"We are very happy to have gotten a sum of money from the Ministry of Education,” said one award winner, "and we promise to further do better in all desciplines of education since it is the foundation and source of wealth.”
