KAMONYI — A man, who allegedly killed his wife and 7-day old child in Kamonyi District in September, last year, has been re-arrested after having been released earlier on.
Ezron Mpazimpaka, 34, was re-arrested on August ,11, after fresh evidence linking him to the murder was brought in by new witnesses.
He is said to have plotted the murder of Grace Ntakirutimana and the child with the help of his accomplice Jean Bosco Ngirinshuti.
The pair had been arrested days after the murder but were later released due to lack of sufficient evidence, according to police.
Police alleges that Mpazimpaka hired Ngirinshuti, still at large, to eliminate the murder victims after pledging to pay him Rwf10,000 and a bicycle as reward for his services.
Prosecution allege that Ngirinshuti as a suspect strangled the victims using a rope and later on buried their bodies in a banana plantation located near the scene of the murder .
Speaking from police custody, Mpazimpaka admitted to having plotted the murder, saying he was driven by anger after local leaders had failed to resolve their ‘long standing domestic disputes’ with the victim.
"I was advised by my colleague to kill my wife in order to resolve these problems once and for all. We had in previous cases been involved in many fights with my wife.”
