Taifa Stars head coach Marcio Maximo believes that Rwanda will overcome Egypt in next month’s World Cup qualifier.
The Brazilian made the remarks after leading his young turks to a deserved 2-1 win over Amavubi Stars in an international friendly on Wednesday.
Maximo said, "Rwanda has good football and despite losing, today (Wednesday) they displayed some good attacking football.”
"Losing today does not mean they’re a bad team. They should never lose hope; I hope they play better against Egypt. I wish Rwanda good luck to qualify for both World/Africa Cup finals,” Maximo said.
Taifa Stars defeated Amavubi Stars 2-1 courtesy of goals from Substitutes Rashid Gumbo and Jerson Tegete.
Rwanda got their consolation from Rayon Sport midfielder Jamal Mwiseneza.
Tanzania was eyeing victory in the friendly as a way of laying ground for next year’s Africa Nation Championship (CHAN) qualifiers, in addition to improving their FIFA rankings.
Tucak was using the game as part of his team’s preparations for next month’s 2010 World Cup/CAN qualifier against African champions Egypt.
In other friendlies involving Rwanda’s group C rivals, Zambia were beaten 4-1 by Ghana in London.
Both teams were without several key players because of visa problems, and Zambia only arrived in the UK on the morning of the match.
Rwanda’s next opponent, Egypt drew 3-3 with Guinea in Cairo while Algeria defeated Uruguay 1-0 in Algiers.
