Production duo Zakhele Mhlanga and Kgothatso Tshabalala best known as Soul Nativez gave Kigali a taste of their music during the third edition of Intore Sundays despite the absence of the main headliner.
The third of this kind event was supposed to be headlined by Maphorisa who has built a huge profile in South African music over the last 10 years, but failed to show up due to reasons that organisers haven’t clarified yet.
The New Times however, has learnt that the South African disc jockey missed his flight from Johannesburg to Kigali on Sunday evening which was too late for him to book another flight.
Maphorisa not showing up for the event didn’t stop Kigalians from turning up as they enjoyed different sets of local and international DJs.
At around 8:00 pm, DJ Lamper stepped on the stage and started doing what he does best. The fast rising DJ played some of the trending songs like Soso by Omah Lay and Victony’s Soweto.
He was followed by local famous DJs including Klein, Toxxyk, Tyga and Pyfo, who all kept the party mood going with MC Zuba.
The Soul Nativez duo arrived on stage at around midnight and made everyone forget Maphorisa who was announced as this edition’s headliner.
Aged only 18 and 19, the pair performed live some of the tracks on their debut album dubbed ‘Teenage Dreams’. From songs like ‘Send Time’ to ‘Rejoice’ and many others, the Soul Nativez duo kept Kigalians dancing for over one hour.
The use of percussion such as electronic toms, shakers and snappy snares is what made their live set a unique experience to watch.
The duo becomes the second Amapiano DJs to perform in Kigali this month following Major League twins who performed at the Amapiano to The World event held on Friday, November 4.
Major League DJs and Soul Nativez performing in Kigali during the same weekend indicates how Ampiano genre continues to top charts of Rwanda and globally.
Intore Sundays is an event organised by a renowned entertainment firm, Intore Ent, which takes place every first week of the month.
