Caf and Ferwafa licensed referee Issa Kagabo boosted his career after undergoing a senior referees’ course for Francophone countries.

The course was held last weekend in Cairo, Egypt, was organised by the Confederation of African Football and it attracted 26 participants.

The course was aimed at checking the technical capabilities and physical fitness of the referees as well as updating them on the latest modifications of the laws of the game.

CAF referees manager Bester Kalombo told Cafonline.com that the course focused on Law 11 and Law 12 of the Laws of the Game as there are so many new developments on the interpretation and application of these laws.

"The participants reacted positively as it gave them the opportunity of having practical information regarding some modifications of Laws of Game.

"It also enabled the instructors to discover some difficulties on the part of referees such as deciding when an offence warrants a yellow or red card,”

 ‘It also gave us the opportunity to have a physical interaction with these referees, who are currently being appointed for the Caf Confederation Cup competitions, and exchange views on different aspects of game,” said Kalombo.

CAF Senior referees are active officials on category B list of CAF and are currently being appointed to mainly officiate Caf Confederation Cup matches.

The B list consist of referees between 34 and 38 years, are therefore neither in the Talent nor in the Elite group category.
Also, most of those invited to this course must have been on FIFA list for the past three years and have never attended any CAF organized course at continental level.

Kagabo, who was selected to officiate at the Cecafa Youth Championship in Sudan this month, will be able to practically exhibit the skills profited from this course.
