Editor,
I am writing following another Letter to the Editor that I wrote, that was published on either July 14th or 15th, with my name and email. I wrote complaining about a problem I had with my MTN modem.
Apparently they won’t take my modem back, although they sold it under false pretenses as to what the monthly costs would be. And it
doesn’t seem like MTN wants to resolve the issue or come up with solutions that will help.
BUT, now I have a bigger, more serious problem. As of Friday, someone at MTN is deliberately deleting my outbound email.
When I send an email from mark@vegout.com, it gets sent to MTN’s SMTP outgoing email server, mail.mtnonline.rw.
There, they have written a program to delete the emails from mark@vegout.com as they come in. This has caused me many problems because the recipients did not receive important emails from me.
First, I can prove that MTN is filtering out emails I have a technical background, and know what I am talking about.
Secondly, it seems that this would be illegal here in Rwanda if not unethical. Do you know the laws? Regardless, this behavior should not be tolerated in Rwanda.
What’s next? Will MTN start a covert operation of filtering emails that have the word MTN in it, so they can personally scrutinize whether to let the mail through or not?
Better yet, why not filter out the emails that have the word MTN in them and are addressed to letters@newtimes.co.rw, so the email can be deleted? Or, will they disable my MTN cell phone, since they know this as well?
Everyone should also be concerned. If its management that’s behind this, the company should be fined and face any government action, along with firing management.
If it is employees behind this without management knowledge, then they (the employee(s)) should be fired, and the management reprimanded for not overseeing their employees.
I am hoping somehow you can explain my predicament.
