Gakenke District authorities have ordered landlords with old and dilapidated houses to renovate them within the next one month as part of the implementation of the new district master plan.

The authorities warned that old structures will be pulled down after the expiry of the set deadline.

The vice mayor in charge of Economic Affairs Felicien Mporanyimana explained that the directive is part of the ongoing campaign aimed at ensuring the development of modern settlements.

The district has also constructed five major roads in the town.
Meanwhile, the district authorities last weekend set up a committee of business leaders to map out a plan of setting up a special purpose investment company . It targets private investors, banks, cooperatives and business people originating from the district.

The vice Mayor said there are a lot of viable opportunities in the area to invest in, including tourism and agro-related business.

He added that the district will consider upgrading available infrastructure, and is set to construct at least a major hotel in the area in the short term.

Assia Niyibampa, the Business Development Services (BDS) official in the area proposed that there is need to bring in capable and experienced managers with a track record of success to help in the implementation of the proposed investment ventures.
