IPP Media is to start operations in Rwanda next year. This was revealed by Rwanda Development Board’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in charge of Business Operations and Services, Claire Akamanzi.

According to Akamanzi, IPP Media, a broadcast media agency that own ITV and EATV both wit head quarters in Tanzania, is in the process of getting a license from the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Agency (RURA).

"They are not yet registered with Rwanda Development Board (RDB) but we hope they will start business next year,” she said.

IPP Media is one of East Africa’s largest Media conglomerates, it is a private company, held under IPP Group and based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The company comprises of nine newspapers, which are published in English including, The Guardian, Sunday Observer, Financial Times, This Day and other five published in Swahili. It also owns two television stations, ITV, East African Television (EATV) owns three radio stations (Radio One, SkyFM and East Africa FM).

The company is also a wide content provider for East African news on the Internet via its web site www.ippmedia.com.

Apart from the IPP Media also Nation Media Group a Kenyan based media group (NMG) is due to start operations in Rwanda by 2010.

Akamanzi said the media group has the license and it is registered to do business in Rwanda.

"The Group is registered and it has the license to operate but they are saying they are still mobilising resources but they will be in the country by 2010,” she explained. 
The Kenyan media group was founded by Aga Khan IV in 1959.

The group publishes The East African, Daily Nation (Kenya’s largest newspaper), The Business Daily, Daily Monitor, The Citizen and it has TV Stations across the region.
