The two Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) peacekeepers who were involved in a motor car accident recently at Tawalli Group Site, were buried on Friday.
Corporal Ildephonse Nyirimigabo and Jean Claude Ndayishimiye were part of the AMIS RWANBATT 5.1 contingent deployed at Sector One El Fasher.
when they were returning from the spring to fetch water.
"During their time of service, they distinguished themselves among their colleagues with pleasant and enthusiastic attitude as well as a high quality performance,” partly read a one page condolence message signed by the joint special representative of the AU Commission Chairman and Secretary General of the UN, Mr Rodolphe Adada.
"AMIS hopes to pray that the bereaved families and friends find strength to resolve to bare this irreparable loss,” added the message.
The two were buried at Kanombe Military cemetery in a ceremony that was attended by senior military officers and relatives.
The condolence message was delivered by the Special Assistance to the Head of AU mission in Darfur, Boitshoko Mokgathe, addressed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Charles Murigande.
It also indicated that the peacekeeping mission in Sudan conveyed its deepest sympathy to the government of Rwanda and the families of the deceased.
The message baring Adada’s signature, indicated that Nyirimigabo, 30, and Ndayishimiye, 29, were barely days in the troubled region which now has over 2,000 Rwandan peacekeepers.
The Ministry of Defence and the AU are currently processing compensation to the families of the deceased.
Military sources earlier said that each family would get $100,000 (approx. Frw55m) in compensation from the AU and a big package from the Ministry of Defence.
The Rwanda National Social Security Fund, will also compensate the families since the fallen peacekeepers were pensioners.
