Keza fashion show, at Heaven Restaurant in Kiyovu, was on Sunday August 9 abruptly cancelled  by the police, sources have reported.

The event which was to honour thirty-eight women from BURANGA Women’s Cooperative, who currently produce all KEZA luxury fashion jewelry, and 10 Rwandan models displaying forty of the original KEZA pieces, ended unceremoniously, when the police ordered the event’s organizers to end the show immediately.

The President and CEO of KEZA, Jared N Miller, who had previously informed The New Times about the show, said on Sunday at 6:00pm, that the show had been postponed.

"We’re sorry to announce that the show has been postponed due to a technical problem, but we shall communicate as soon as we rescheduled the date,” Miller said in a low sad tone.

According to the President of Women’s Cooperative, Jane Mutesi the show will be rescheduled to a later date, and people who had already bought tickets have the option of keeping them for the rescheduled show.

Buranga explained that the reason for the shutting was because the police was not informed about the event.

"We didn’t think it was necessary to inform the police about fashion show since it was going to be held at a restaurant,” Buranga said.

The police spokesman John Uwamungu claimed that, the show was abruptly closed because Kigali City Council (KCC) had not permitted organizers to carry out the show.

"They deliberately decided to launch, despite the fact that KCC had not authorized them.

But as soon as the show had started, KCC contacted us [police] to intervene and stop it from proceeding,” Uwamungu said.

Meanwhile, efforts to reach the City Council’s spokesman were unsuccessfully by press time.
