POLICE have arrested a housemaid suspected of kidnapping a two year old child in Juru cell, Nyarutarama in Gasabo district
The suspect who was paraded before the press at Remera Police Station was identified as Claudine Uwamahoro,17.

The kidnapped child was recovered in Nyamasheke District, Western Province where Uwamahoro originates.

According to Uwamahoro, she stole the baby and took it  to her father’s home.

"When I reached home I told my father that the baby is mine so that he could give me a share of his property,” said Uwamahoro who was employed to care for the baby
She pleaded guilty before the police and in an interview with The Sunday Times, said that she realizes the crime she committed and that she was ready to serve any sentence that the courts of law will give her.

Child molester arrested

Meanwhile, police are holding a sixteen year old girl who is alleged to have molested a two-year old boy.

The molester’s identity is still withheld by the police since both, the suspect and the victim are all minors.

Available information indicates that the molester was a housemaid who was also charged with taking care of the boy.
She was caught in the act by the boy’s mother who dragged her to the police.

Addressing the press, the Police Spokesman, Chief Superintendent John Uwamungu, warned against employing under-age people as house helps. He also requested members of the society to always register their housemaids with local authorities.

Uwamungu asked the local authorities to always collect data of all the housemaids in the areas they manage.
