SACKED: Raoul Shungu

Rayon Sport is scheduled to hold a General Assembly meeting next Saturday whose major theme will be plotting for a major assault on the football scene next season.

The Blues have not won any trophy for the last four years, and only finished in third place in the league last season behind Atraco and champions APR.

The trophy drought is frustrating especially to their passionate supporters, who are longing for the glory days of the late 1990s and early 2000s when they dominated local football.

The club’s woes worsened towards the end of last season when they sacked their most successful coach and fans’ favourite Raoul Shungu and replaced him with his assistant Baptiste Kayiranga.

Olivier Gakwaya, the club Secretary General told Times Sport that the other major issues for discussion during the General Assembly will  be the report on the team performance of last season, and a new programme for the 2009/10 season.

"We shall iron out some other important issues like electing new people in charge of mobilization, discipline and recruitment.

"And also to update the General Assembly on some programmes, which include extending contracts of some players as well as identifying new signings, ” Gakwaya told this paper yesterday.
