Over 300 million francs have been embezzled since 2008 from 11 cooperatives operating in the districts of Rwamagana and Kayonza, according to Rwanda cooperative Agency (RCA) revealed.

The cooperatives are for farmers growing rice in the area.
Joseph Matama, the former chairman of the cooperative has since been jailed over this embezzlement.

The RCA also revealed that there have been unauthorized cooperatives which were producing poor products saying that they will soon be dealt with.
