Over 60 market vendors of Exodus market in Remera,Giporoso have urged local authorities to effectively enforce strategies that will compel vendors still operating from Remera taxi-park to comply with an eviction notice.

A few months ago, local authorities decided to evict vendors who were operating in the taxi-park to a nearby open ground.

The vendors who complied with the eviction order are urging the area’s local authorities to come up with measures to evict vendors who have turned a blind eye to the notice.   

Jeanne d`Arc Mukantihabose, one of the vendors, said that there is no business in the market where they were relocated due to lack of customers.

"We can not compete with those operating from the taxi-park because they have easy access to customers they should be made to comply and join us here,” Mukantihabose pleaded.

She explained that all taxi park vendors were given by local authorities a deadline of June 5 to have vacated the park but some have not complied.

According to the Jacques Uwimana, the Executive Secretary of Remera sector, the problem has been forwarded to the district.

"I have reported the matter to Narcisse Ndagijimana, Vice Mayor in charge of social affairs Gasabo district, since relevant authorities have failed to implement the decision,”  Uwimana.
