The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has donated two computers and a printer to Rwanda Editors Forum (REFO), a body that brings together all editors in both print and electronic media houses.

The donation estimated at Rwf1.6 m was handed over by Alphase Bahizi, the UNESCO-Rwanda Permanent Secretary at their offices in Remera yesterday.

Bahizi described the donation as one way of supporting the press with capacity building, calling upon the forum to use the equipment to carry out their duties and build the capacity of the press.

He however, urged media practitioners not only to depend on their monthly salaries but to also start small income generating activities.

REFO president Jean Bosco Rushingabigwi, who received the donation on behalf of the forum, thanked UNESCO’s contribution saying that the equipment had come in handy.

"We hope this will somehow help us in our duties,” said Rushingabigwi who also doubles as the director of the Kigali-based Great Lakes Media Centre.

REFo was formed in August last year by media houses in Rwanda and its membership is made up of all media stakeholders.
