Fleeing refugees not Rwandans

KIGALI - The refugees from Uganda who got to Rwanda and later crossed back to the Nakivale camps and other place are ‘Congolese and Burundians’, a repatriation official said Monday dismissing claims that the programme had failed. 

Innocent Ngango from the Ministry of Local Government added that when they get here and got UNHCR domestic materials, some of these refugees who are actually Congolese and Burundians go back to other camps.

He also dismissed allegations by some refugees that they go back due to hunger.

Residents build a clinic

GISAGARA - Residents of Ruturo in Gisagara district in conjunction with local leaders celebrated yesterday their achievement of building a health centre that was built from contribution made by residents.

The Executive Secretary of the district appreciated the good team work by residents adding that the clinic will help the patients who have been walking long distances from Ruturo to Kibirizi hospital.

Residents build school

MUHANGA - Due to long distance made by pupils going to school, residents of Nyarusange in Muhanga district yesterday opened a primary school built from their concerted efforts.

The four-room primary school was built by Bengerana Jabiro association which consists of over 300 members who are residents in this area.

According to the residents, their children have been walking long distances to go school.

Ceras Ndagizimana, the chairman of the association said that another reason they built the school was that government is going to build an estate in Jabiro which necessitated having a school nearby.

Drivers visit survivors

GASABO-Truck drivers and residents of Gisozi yesterday visited the genocide survivors in Kinyinya residents in Gasabo district and donated food items worth of 440,000 francs.

The chairman of the drivers’ association, Gracien Karemera said that people should stop being selfish arguing them to come and help the genocide survivors.

Gishwati trees destroyed

KIGALI - Jean Claude Nyamarere, the acting Director of National Forest Authority (NAFA) said that settlers in the Gishwati forest in the Western Province are destroying trees planted during the reforestation of the devastated natural forest.

He said that they have embarked on a sensitization campaign to discourage the people from such acts.

Gishwati is one of the largest natural forests in Rwanda that has suffered near extinction.

The settlers are mainly refugees who crossed in from the DRC and encroached on 99.4 percent of the forest.

PSF to mark customer care day

GIKONDO - To day Private Sector Federation has organized a road show to mark customer care’s day.

The road show will start from Gikondo, which also serves as the headquarters of PSF.

Yvette Mukarwema, the PSF’s public relation officer said that road show will help create awareness of customer care service among the public.
