League champions, APR Fc have signed defender John Karangwa from Uganda Revenue Authority on a reported two-year deal. APR Secretary General Adolphe Kalisa confirmed the development Wednesday.

"We signed him (Karangwa) to boost the defence, and we hope to bring in a couple of new players as we prepare for next season,” said Kalisa.

But according to Ugandan media, Karangwa signed for the ten-time Rwandan champions late last month in a two-year deal reported to be around $15,000 (Rwf8.3 millions).

The defender, born to a Congolese father and Rwandan mother has already started training with the military side.

APR, who won their tenth league title last week are planning for a major assault in the transfer window as they build a squad good enough to challenge for major honours next season including the MTN Champions League and Cecafa/Kagame Cup.

Meanwhile, former Rwanda U-23 captain Omar Hitimana is yet to impress APR’s coaching staff during his trial period but he could get an escape route back to the Uganda Super League where his situation is being closely monitored by URA and SC Villa.

In a related development, APR have taken the case against Bokungu Ndjoli to CAF seeking tougher reprimand for the Congolese striker for breach of contract.

Bokungu disappeared from APR after the national football league was put on hold in mid May to pave the way for the national team’s preparations ahead of their 2010 World Cup qualifiers against Zambia and Egypt.

He is said to have played two games for DR Congo club Leopards Santos Muntubile, and is now rumored to be on the verge of joining Angolan club Athletico Sport Aviaçao.
